Welcome to Enforcer Fridays
What up y’all,
My name is Elvin Chambers, but I prefer my online name Elvin The Enforcer. I have been on the St. Louis music scene for quite some time from your back in the day music fanboy at Vintage Vinyl (this was eons ago) to helping develop a local music festival (S.L.U.M. Fest + Slumfest Awards). I have tried my hat in many arenas and now you can add writer to that list.
What is Enforcer Friday’s, it is my playlist, a celebration of music releases that drop every Friday, in short it is my hand picked songs feature from my favorite releases of the week that I think you should check out. My musical taste ranges from Hip Hop, R&B, to Jazz. From time to time you will see local artist on this playlist as I am an avid supporter of local music, but I do have a playlist dedicated for that too, coming in my next post.
My pick of the week is Benny The Butcher “Burden of Proof”. This Buffalo emcee is known for his mafioso rap style that has been making headlines along with his rap label Griselda Records (see Westside Gunn, Conway). Benny’s rap style is a throwback to that New York gritty style often heard on the East Coast in the 1990’s. This is the follow up from his ep “The Plugs I Met” that was release two summers ago and proves to be a promising follow up. This album features production from Hit-Boy who has been on a tear producing Nas’s “King Disease”, his collaborative project with Dom Kennedy “Also Known As”, along with a myriad of hits he produced in the last few years. Make sure you give this album a listen and enjoy your weekend. https://open.spotify.com/album/6xlQNGdro3cCcn8v1ZEGm3?si=4waP_Sc9TF6Tr2m-JhiCAg
