MOTIVATIONAL – Do you ever wonder why you believe what you believe? I am not speaking of just religious beliefs. I am speaking of beliefs you may have about yourself. What is a belief you have about yourself that is holding you back?
I recently attended an emotional intelligence seminar with my coworkers. It was so empowering! We learned in the class that emotional intelligence is the ability to identify, use, understand, and manage your own emotions in positive ways to relieve stress, communicate effectively, empathize with others, overcome challenges, and defuse conflict.
We learned about understanding our own emotions towards people. We often have to adjust to different personalities at work and our personal lives. If someone does not prefer many details, we may give them only the summarized version. If someone does not like to talk on the phone, we may send them an email or a text.
How do we adjust to our own insecurities, fears, etc.? What are those common beliefs and/or thoughts we have everyday that are negative? Have you ever thought about what it’s like to be in a relationship with yourself? How do you treat yourself? Do you encourage yourself? Do you love the person you are? Do you push yourself to greatness? Do you challenge yourself? Did someone mention when you were younger that you were not smart enough?
Maybe you are not pretty or handsome enough to be in a certain clique? Has anyone said you were not good enough because you didn’t grow up with all the resources and influence that another family had? Maybe you always felt rejected from past relationships and often thought what is wrong with me. Perhaps, you were fired from a job. Maybe you could have had a baby out of wedlock and you felt rejected.
Some of us have had some tough journeys and it has truly shaped our personal belief system. Have you ever thought how many negative things run throughout your mind each day? Do you feed those thoughts? Or, do you tell yourself that those are lies? What evidence do you have that the belief is true? What is the worst that can happen if you let the belief go?
We must wake up each morning thanking God for another day. Pray for guidance and always pray to be a blessing to others. We also have to remember to speak daily affirmations over ourselves to get rid of all the negative beliefs we have. Some of them are so heavily rooted so it may take time to truly get rid of those beliefs.
You are good enough. You are smart enough. You deserve the position. You are right where you should be. There is no need to fear the unknown. Everything you need is already inside of you to tackle whatever comes your way. You have great things in store for you. Change your beliefs about yourself today!
