Delux is taking a moment to pause and honor Kwofe Coleman, President, and CEO of The Muny who has just wrapped up his first season as the newest President & CEO. We celebrate Kwofe by remembering the moment he was announced the newest leader for Th Muny with an article from our Fall 2021 issue, written by Jami Dolby. Today we celebrate Kwofe Coleman a true game changer and changing agent in our community.

“I am honored and humbled by the opportunity to lead The Muny and serve a community that I love. The unparalleled history, remarkable resources, and aspiration spirit that have yielded a century of success for The Muny are our foundation as we begin our second century. With great excitement, I look forward to the future of a cultural institution that will take intentional steps to broaden and evolve our identity and relationships through both our art and our investment in this community.”

Kwofe Coleman, President & CEO -The Muny

Kwofe a 2016 Delux Power 100 Awardee started his career with the Muny as a teenager in 1998 and most recently served as Managing Director. Coleman a 2016 Delux Power 100 Awardee is the first African-American to hold the position of the amphitheater in its over 100 years of existence. Kwofe served as Marketing Director and Managing Director during The Muny’s centennial celebration and said “I’m really proud of the diversity and representation of our full-time staff” and is looking forward to bringing the entire St. Louis community to The Muny by growing the outreach programs and participating in the culture that makes St. Louis special.

Coleman a Saint Louis native with deep family roots in Ghana says “This won’t be an easy job but it will be a job that I love”. Coleman who moved back to St. Louis following graduation from Emory University in Atlanta said he prefers his path with The Muny and jokingly said he wasn’t brave enough to take the stage. A stage entering its 103rd season was recently renovated following the 2018 launch of their 100 Million Second Century Campaign.

Kwofe will assume the role of President and CEO, in January 2022 when current President & CEO Dennis Reagan retires and continues to serve as Senior Advisor. Raegan who served as president for 30 years started his career with The Muny at 16 just as Coleman did.

Coleman sums up a night out at The Muny as an experience where you can let your disconnect and let your imagination go. When asked what his favorite show was he named 2005 “Aida” where Simone, daughter of Nina Simone played the lead and of course The Wiz in 2018.

Closing out an amazing season, and having the baton of art and music seamlessly handed off to Kwofe from retiring President and CEO, Denny Reagan, Kwofe’s newest season of musicals and plays at The Muny went out in colorful style with “Joseph” and it could not have been a better closer for his inaugural year!
