DELUX Magazine attended the fabulous Neiman Marcus St. Louis event, where Oscar de la Renta’s Pre-Spring 2027 collection helped launch an exciting weekend of fashion, motorsports and community impact.

Fashion and motorsports may appear to occupy two different worlds, but Runway to Raceway demonstrated just how naturally they belong together.

DELUX Magazine was in attendance as Neiman Marcus St. Louis welcomed some of the city’s most stylish guests for an invitation-only evening celebrating creativity, craftsmanship and culture. The signature event opened Confluence Festival weekend, pairing Oscar de la Renta’s Pre-Spring 2027 collection with a display of vintage and exotic automobiles.

The result was a fabulous experience where couture met horsepower and every detail reflected the shared relationship between fashion and automotive design. Both industries are powered by vision, precision, movement and the courage to create something unforgettable.

Oscar de la Renta Takes Over the Runway

The second floor of Neiman Marcus was transformed into a runway, offering guests an exclusive look at what Oscar de la Renta will bring to fashion in 2027.

According to the fashion house, the Pre-Spring 2027 collection was inspired by the light-filled landscapes of Spanish painter Joaquín Sorolla. The collection embraces the optimism of warmer days through soft shades of sage, blossom and blue quartz, complemented by vibrant touches of red, peridot and mimosa.

Floral artistry plays a central role throughout the collection. Roses, rhododendrons and irises appear across a variety of silhouettes and materials, from oversized prints and threadwork appliqués to intricate embroidery. The collection also incorporates silk chiffon, lace, textured jacquard, fluid fringe and detailed beadwork, creating a visual story filled with color, movement and celebration.

Among the runway highlights were a structured floral minidress featuring embroidered appliqué and defined shoulders, an elegant satin column gown, a metallic strapless cocktail dress and a striking embroidered bridal gown in soft ivory. An olive-green ensemble also earned an enthusiastic reaction from the audience. 

Each look reflected the craftsmanship and sophisticated femininity that have made Oscar de la Renta one of the most recognized names in American fashion. The presentation balanced timeless elegance with contemporary energy, making the collection feel equally suited for a grand entrance, an upscale celebration or an unforgettable night in the city.

Where Style Meets Speed

Outside, the vintage and exotic automobiles extended the runway experience into the Neiman Marcus south parking area.

Much like a couture garment, a remarkable automobile begins with an idea and depends on countless details working together. Form, function, engineering and visual appeal must all meet at the highest level. At Runway to Raceway, the cars were more than a backdrop—they reinforced the evening’s celebration of design, individuality and innovation.

The combination gave guests an opportunity to experience two forms of artistry in one place. The sculpted lines of the vehicles complemented the structure and movement of the clothing, while the energy associated with racing created an exciting contrast to the elegance of the runway.

Opening Confluence Festival Weekend

Runway to Raceway served as the official fashion-forward kickoff to Confluence Festival and the Enjoy Illinois 300 NASCAR Weekend at World Wide Technology Raceway.

Confluence Festival has grown into an experience that reaches beyond the racetrack by connecting motorsports with music, innovation, community programming and live entertainment. World Wide Technology Raceway describes the festival as a celebration of the relationship between music, racing and the St. Louis community. 

By beginning the weekend at Neiman Marcus, Runway to Raceway created an elegant entry point into the larger celebration. It invited fashion lovers and community tastemakers into the excitement of NASCAR weekend while introducing racing fans to another expression of performance and creativity.

That crossover is part of what made the event so compelling. It was not simply a fashion show surrounded by beautiful cars. It was a celebration of the imagination, confidence and discipline required to succeed—whether someone is designing a couture collection, engineering a race car or competing on the track.

Honoring Wendell Scott’s Legacy Through Leadership and Opportunity

The evening’s purpose extended far beyond fashion and entertainment. A portion of the sales proceeds from race weekend benefited the Wendell Scott Foundation, which provides scholarships, mentorship, STEM education and career-development opportunities for underserved youth.

Chinique Scott, Executive Director of the Wendell Scott Foundation, was among the foundation’s leaders helping connect the excitement of Runway to Raceway with its greater purpose. Through her leadership, the foundation continues transforming Wendell Scott’s historic achievements into meaningful opportunities for young people—encouraging them to dream beyond barriers, explore new career paths and pursue their goals with confidence.

Wendell Scott’s place in American motorsports history remains monumental. On December 1, 1963, he became the first African American driver to win a NASCAR premier-series event. He completed 495 starts during his career, earning 20 top-five finishes and 147 top-10 finishes before being inducted into the NASCAR Hall of Fame in 2015. 

Scott achieved those milestones while confronting racial discrimination and competing with significantly fewer resources than many of his opponents. He was a driver, team owner and skilled mechanic who frequently prepared and maintained his own cars. His journey embodied the same creativity, precision, resilience and determination celebrated throughout Runway to Raceway.

That mission gave the glamorous evening a deeper significance. Every look presented on the runway and every show-stopping automobile on display contributed to a celebration rooted in history, representation and forward movement.

Today, the Wendell Scott Foundation carries that legacy forward by creating educational, mentorship and career-development opportunities for underserved youth. Its presence gave the evening a deeper meaning, connecting the glamour of the runway with a mission focused on access and opportunity.

Warrick Scott, Wendell Scott’s grandson and CEO of the foundation, also drew a meaningful connection between his grandfather and Oscar de la Renta. Both men were trailblazers who relied on creativity, skill and confidence to build legacies within their respective industries.
