August may be coming to a close but the quest for dope music continues. This week we have new releases from J.I.D., DJ Khaled, Roc Marciano and Alchemist. On the local front rapper MC Tres dropped a small pack to end the summer. Hopefully, these new entries will hold you down like Biden’s student loan bill…or maybe not.

Jid – The Forever Story

In an age where rappers are constantly dropping new music every few months J.I.D. has done the opposite. It was four years ago when Jid dropped his sophomore album DiCaprio 2. However, in J.I.D’s defense he has made some memorable features during his four year stretch, from being featured on Dreamville’s compilation Revenge of the Dreamers and DJ Drama’s mixtape D – Day, J.I.D has graced us with several songs.

The Forever Story is a continuation from Jid’s first project The Never Story released in 2017. Guest features on the album include Lil Wayne, 21 Savage, Yasiin Bey, Baby Tate, Lil Durk, Ravyn Lenae, John Austin and Kenny Mason. The Forever Story is a solid outing; bridging the gap between rap generations Jid provides dope lyrics with current production. My favorite tracks on the album include “Surround Sound,” “Dance,” “Stars,” and “Kody Blu 31”.

DJ Khaled – God Did

DJ Khaled is back with another all-star studded album God Did. This time around Khaled has focused on hip hop after focusing on the pop charts on his 2021 album Khaled, Khaled. One thing you can expect from a Khaled release is great production alongside his ensemble of rappers. Tracks you should check out include the title track “God Did” featuring Rick Ross, Lil Wayne, Jay-Z and John Legend, “Bill Paid” featuring Latto and City Girl, “It Ain’t Safe” featuring Nando Wick and Kodak Black.

Roc Marciano & Alchemist – The Elephant Man’s Bones

As hip hop continues to spread out over the generations I will provide music picks for everyone. That said, Roc Marciano and Alchemist have teamed up on a collaboration of lyricism and grimey production. Reminiscent of 90’s New York street rap The Elephant Man’s Bones should keep those fans satisfied.
