It’s official, Juneteenth is a national holiday! This is the first holiday since Martin Luther King Junior birthday to be recognized as a national holiday. For those who don’t know what Juneteenth is, it is the final place where   the day Black folks in Galveston, Texas got word they was free from slavery.

This is a monumental day in American history as Juneteenth will be a day for all Americans to learn about our quest for liberation. One can hope that this symbolic victory will curtail a few of the systemic issues facing many Black Americans. Though we have a long ways to go in the fight for equality, Juneteenth is a welcomed addition to the holiday list.

H.E.R.- Back of My Mind

Once a mystery in the music industry H.E.R. is one of the bright stars in the R&B genre right now. H.E.R.’s first full length project “Back Of My Mind” is loaded with quite a few songs to keep you going this summer. The project consist of 21 tracks and features Ty Dolla Sign, Cordae, Lil Baby, and Thundercat on one of my favorite tracks ”Bloody Waters”. This is well worth your listening time with a perfect mixture of upbeat and chill vibes throughout this project.

Mumu Fresh- Queen of Culture

I don’t know if Mumu Fresh could tell the future, or if it is just perfect timing but her latest project “Queen of Culture” is just in time for Juneteenth.  Mumu is a refreshing voice in the Hip Hop and R&B world blending her strong lyrical abilities with solid production. This project reminded me of some medication I needed, filled with love and a dose of humor. Standout tracks worth checking out is “Reparations”, “Rap God”, “What’s the Use in Praying” and “Karen”.

Isaiah Rashad-Headshots

Isaiah Rashad is back with another single “Headshots (4r Da Locals). This is the second song released from Rashad in the last couple of months. One can only hope that Top Dawg Entertainment will be dropping Rashad’s album soon with, but in the meantime enjoy this video as we all wait patiently for “The House is Burning” project.
