It’s Friday once again, and new music is here! This week Black Thought of the the legendary Roots crew has collaborated with El Michels Affairs for a joint album. Second, Terrace Martin and Robert Glasper has linked up once again to bring us the second installment of Dinner Party. Plus, we have new singles from Ice Spice, SZA, and several others added to the playlist.

El Michels Affair & Black Thought – Glorious Game

Earlier this year Black Thought announced that new music was on the way and dropped a new single “Grateful” with El Michels Affair. Thought who is the frontman of the legendary Roots crew has been consistently dropping EP’s over the last several years. Thought first dropped Streams of Thought in 2018 and has been on a run in hip hop dropping jewels in his small vignettes.

This time around Black Thought is working with a new band, El Michels Affair to present to us Glorious Game. El Michels Affair who is headed by Leon Michels co-founder of Big Crown Records is responsible for production on Lady Wray and Lee Fields albums. Michel’s has been active in the hip hop community so this pairing with Black Thought makes for a nice combination of rhymes and soulful melodies that should keep the heads nodding of every hip hop aficionado of the 90’s. Notable tracks to check out include the title track “Glorious Game,” “Protocol,” and “That Girl”.

Dinner Party – Enigmatic Society

Terrace Martin, Kamasi Washington, Robert Glasper are Dinner Party. This collaboration of producers and musicians has been responsible for several Grammy award winning projects (To Pimp A ButterFly, Black Radio lll) along with their 2022 Grammy nomination for best progressive R&B album Dessert. In anticipation of their new album the collective dropped visuals for “Insane” off their new project Enigmatic Society out now.

Enigmatic Society is an added continuation to what Terrace Martin, Kamasi Washington, and Robert Glasper have been building for the last few years, which is good music. The project guest features include Phoenix, Erin Ray, Ant Clemons, along with 9th Wonder production. After my first listen I suggest you check out “Breathe,” “Can’t Go,” and the Fela Kuti inspired “The Lower East Side”.

Ice Spice featuring Nicki Minaj – Princess Diana

Up and coming rapper Ice Spice is back with a new single “Princess Diana” featuring Nicki Minaj.

SZA – KILL BILL (Featuring Doja Cat)

SZA has added some woman power to “Kill Bill”.
