The school year is coming to an end, and graduation season is here. I always get a kick out of the host at the graduation telling everyone to remain silent until they read all the names. They obviously don’t know how us Black folks celebrate, we love showing out, especially when our children excel. Hopefully, you all can experience the shushing sounds from the host or hostess as Covid restriction are loosening.
J Cole- The Offseason
Last week J Cole dropped “The Interlude” and the internet went crazy to find out that North Carolina emcee was dropping “The Offseason”. Many also wondered if Cole would do another album with no features, well the answer is no. Cole is here and ready to slaughter your favorite rappers.
The first track “95. South” features Cam’ron on his braggadocio bully style with production from Boi-1da that is reminiscent of those Dipset beats. This is one of my favorite songs on the album. Cole also features up and coming artist Morray and 21 Savage on “My Life”, and Lil Baby on “Pride. is. the. Devil”. This album delivers dope lyrics and beats, and you will definitely be nodding your head back and forth from start to finish.
Stringz EMB- Lights On
There is an amazing artist emerging from St. Louis that goes by the name Stringz EMB. Stringz has been on the national and St. Louis scene for the last few years. Stringz EMB blends R&B and Hip Hop in his artistry and has had the pleasure of opening for Murphy Lee, and Bubba Sparxx. His musical influences include Anthony Hamilton, John Legend and James Brown to name a few.
Stringz latest single and visuals “Lights On” features emerging artist Katarra Parson on the background vocals. “Lights On” wrestles with the struggles of success and the mental challenges it takes to rise up. This is Stringz first song from his forthcoming project “E Legato A”, that is scheduled to drop later this year. You can watch his latest visuals below, and be sure to check out his prior release “Anchor“.
Jorja Smith- Be Right Back
For the last few years I have heard people say they miss that R&B sound. Well if you know me by now, I love searching out new music for your ears and mine. Jorja Smith is back with a new project “Be Right Back”. This is the sophmore release for Smith since her 2018 debut “Lost & Found”.
Coming from the U. K., Jorja Smith has steadily pushed her way up the charts with her past songs such as “Be Honest” and “On My Mind“. “Be Right Back” is an eight song ep that features the hit song “Addicted”. Other songs on the project worth checking out is “Gone, and “Bussdown”.
