Kelly Rowland- “K” EP

It’s been a second since we heard from former Destiny’s Child member Kelly Rowland. A lot has taken place for Rowland who recently gave birth to her second child, and things got a littler emotional when former bandmates Beyonce and Michelle Williams paid a surprise visit.

Rowland’s Ep “K” is a refreshing addition to this year’s list of R&B artist who have been dropping. “K” is an upbeat collection of songs that will keep you moving while you shed that winter weight, or if you waiting to hit your favorite jook joint; just make sure you practice caution. My favorite tracks from the ep include, “Black Magic’, ‘Flowers’, and the Fela Kuti inspired ‘Hitman'”.

NandoSTL- “Here I Go”

I’m outside now…I’m outside now! When Nando stepped on the St. Louis scene just a couple of years with his viral hit “Outside“, I automatically started googling his name. Nando, one of St. Louis rising talents has proved over the last couple of years his ability to make great songs. His ep “Bamboo” released in 2019 garnered the attention of the St. Louis local music scene when he won several awards at the 2020 Slumfest Awards show, one in particular for best new artist.

Nando is once again focused and poised to make some noise with the release of his new single “Here I Go” produced by PDub the Producer, and features background vocals by Jocelyn “Bleu” Youngblood. “Here I Go” also has connections to another St. Louis artist, Smino. Chris Classick, Smino’s manager was apart of the mix and mastering along with Darwin Derequito.

One thing you can be certain about Nando is his love for St. Louis. On his latest single Nando pays tribute to his favorite St. Louis artist, which i will not tell, you will have to listen for yourself.

Sonny Grands “5 Days In Vegas”

If you have been following trends, then you know lyricism has been emerging back into the spotlight. From Busta Rhymes, to Griselda Records, lyricism has seen a resurgence. This next artist from St. Louis is a wordsmith, Sonny Grands. Grand’s rapping influences include Jay-Z, and Fabulous, as he focuses on clever punch lines over that classic boom bap sound.

Over the last few years Sonny has honed in on producing. His last project “Union Ties Present: The Iron Curtain EP” a collaboration between him and his partner in rhyme Gritz Hoffa. These two trade bars back in forth and keep my head nodding and wanting to pull out that 90’s Polo outfit in my closet.

Grand’s has re-upped once again , this time going dolo with his new song “5 Day in Vegas” inspired by his trip to Sin City a few months ago.
