This past week the Grammy’s were held at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. Though 2021 was dominated by Covid, last year proved to be a good year for music with Tyler the Creator winning for best rap album for “Call Me If You Get Lost. Silk Sonic raked up 4 Grammys that included winning record of the year along with Jasmine Sullivan walking away with best R&B album for “Heaux Tales.

2022 has already been a good year for music with artist showing no sign of letting up. With the first quarter of the year complete, what are some of your favorite releases? Overall, it’s good to see a diversity in hip hop making a resurgence.

Vince Staples – Ramona Park Broke My Heart

Vince Stapes has released his new album Ramona Park Broke My Heart. The 16 track project delves back into Staples early years in Ramona Park where he grew up. The album features guest appearances from Lil Baby, Ty Dolla $ign, and DJ Mustard who also produced a few tracks on the album.

Ramona Park Broke My Heart is Staples fifth studio album. The project shows Staples versatility to tell stories over melodic beats. My favorite tracks on the album include “Magic,” “East Point Prayer,” “Aye! (Free The Homies) and “Rose Street”.

Syd – Broken Hearts Club

After taking some time off, Syd, the lead singer for The Internet has released her second album Broken Hearts Club. The 13 track album comes in around 40 minutes and features Lucky Daye, Kehlani, and St. Louis rapper Smino. The album is a mixture of uptempo and sultry sounding production we have grown to love from Syd, which makes this project worth checking out. Stand out songs on the album include “Control,” “Out Loud,” and “CYBAH”.

Fivio Foreign – B.I.B.L.E

New York rapper Fivio Foreign has been busy over the last few years with features on Kanye West (Donda), and Nas (King’s Disease) album. Fivio has released his anticipated debut album B.I.B.L.E. The project features a stellar list of artist from Alicia Keys, Asap Rocky, Quavo, Neyo, Chole, Coi Leray, Queen Naija, and a few others.

Fivio is one of the new artist ushering in the New York drill scene that has been growing since the late rapper Pop Smoke came on the scene in 2018. Fivio looks to build on his momentum with tracks ranging from radio hits to the streets. Notable songs worth checking out on the album include “City of Gods,” “Left Side.” and “What’s My Name”.

Paul Wall & Termanology – Start 2 Finish

Paul Wall “The People’s Champ” and Termanology have hooked up for a joint project titled Start 2 Finish. If you are into that boom bap style of 90’s rap then this is right up your alley. It may be a surprise to a lot of Paul Wall fans seeing him rap over boom bap beats. However, this is what Paul Wall has been waiting for.

The 10 track project features production from Statik Selecta, Pete Rock, and Dame Grease. In an age where we see a ton collaborations, it is welcoming to see artist expanding their versatility and range. My favorite tracks on the album include “No Asterisk,” “Thailand,” featuring Bun B, and “No Tolerance” featuring Nems and Fly Anakin.

42 Dugg & EST Gee- Last Ones Left

42 Dugg and EST Gee have linked up for a new project titled Last Ones Left. Both artist who are signed to Yo Gotti’s CMG label look to rank up on their latest collaboration of street raps.
