Hopefully everyone has had a great week thus far, right? Today I have a few selections that I hope you will find entertaining or at least keep you calm during this heatwave we are experiencing. Plus, we have several new playlist entries including Coco Jones “ICU” remix featuring Justin Timberlake, and Robert Glasper’s new song “Back To Love” featuring SiR and Alex Isley from the Run the World show, and a lot more.

King Von – Grandson

It seems like time has been passing by fast, It’s been nearly three years since the rap world lost King Von. The up and coming rapper out of the Southside of Chicago was an artist on the rise who I could see transforming the culture of drill music. Backed by a ferocious flow and his story telling abilities Von captivated his listeners by speaking from his heart. Today his posthumous album Grandson is here for us all to get another taste of the fallen rapper.

Dave East – Fortune Favors the Bold

Dave East dropped off his new project Fortune Favors the Bold today. This is the second full length album from the Harlem rapper since his 2019 debut of Survival. That may seem like a long time but the Harlem rapper has stayed consistent dropping mixtapes during that time span. My favorite tracks on the project include “Come 2 Far,” “Good Good Good,” “Million Off Rap,” and “Weirdos.”

Mahalia – IRL

Over the last few years there has been a British invasion of singers taking over the airwaves. Mahalia is the latest of thenUK rising artist that have been making waves lately. Mahalia’s new album IRL has several new songs receiving major airplay which includes “Cheat”. Guest features on the project include Kojey Radical, Joyce Price, Stormzy and Destin Conrad. Notable songs you should check out on the project include “Terms and Conditions,” “Wassup,” “November,” and “In My Bag.”

Yussef Dayes – Marching Band/Tioga Pass

I

I may be behind on Yussef Dayes, but not any longer. I first heard of Yussef Dayes a few years ago when I stumbled on a track “Nightrider” which featured Freddie Gibbs, thank the algorithms! That is when I heard his collaboration project What Kinda Music with Tom Misch (if you are fan of good music, you should check him out too). Dayes has a wide range of musical styles ranging from african rhythms, jungle, and jazz.

Dayes latest EP Marching Band/Tioga Pass is a culmination of all the aforementioned things said. The project features guest appearances from Masego, Tom Mitch, Rocco Palladino, Venna and Charlie Stacey. If you are looking for a musical experience then sit back and enjoy this project until his full length Black Classical Music drops later this year.
