Puerto Rican-born model Joan Smalls has teamed up with the LA-based denim brand True Religion to design her first collection. The upcoming 16-piece capsule includes high-rise skinny jeans, workout crop tops and other everyday basics, according to Vogue magazine.  Each sporty piece from the True Religion collection perfectly echoes Smalls’s off-duty style.

“I went for simple and comfortable, but I also wanted to make a statement here and there,” Smalls told Vogue.

The Victoria’s Secret angel’s favorite piece from the collaboration is a gym-friendly, French-terry rolled-sleeve tee that can be worn with “a patterned skirt and a pair of killer heels,” she says.

Smalls has followed in the footsteps of fellow Victoria’s Secret angel Candice Swanepoel, who recently designed her own denim line for Mother.

You will be able to buy pieces from the Joan Smalls X True Religion collection on March 16 at the True Religion store located in the St. Louis Galleria and on the True Religion website.  Pre-orders can be taken on Nordrom’s website now. You can preview more of the collection here.

Pieces from the Joan Smalls X True Religion line are guaranteed to sell out, so get your favorites early.  According to the True Religion website, this clothing line was created for “the girl who knows that all eyes are one her.”

Smalls has already been the face for several campaigns for the spring/summer 2015 season, including Balmain, Marc Jacobs, Benetton Urban Color and Prabal Gurung.  She’s very good friends with all of these designers, so it’s not surprising that designing a clothing line was next on her agenda.  I’m looking forward to seeing what she does next.

True Religion has already released a video promoting the collection, featuring Joan doing her best Beyoncé dance moves to some techno music.  The supermodel (along with other top black models Jourdan Dunn and Chanel Iman) was featured in Queen Bey’s “YoncĂ© ” video last year.
