Lesisure Studies Presents Idle Warship @ 2720 Cherokee

Idle Warship is the duo production of hip-hop juggernaut Talib Kweli and luminary soul singer Res. After years of friendship and collaboration, the two came together and have been putting out incredible music with a mash-up of stylistic influences; drawing upon hip-hop, alternative, house, and soul. Their dedication to creative expression has put on display the duo’s wealth of musical talents and created enthralling live and studio performances, many of which are available for free online.

2/17-2/21: Mardi Gras Weekend
As a leader in the St. Louis nightlife and restaurant industries, Lola continues to push the envelope in bringing progressive food, cocktail, & entertainment concepts to the market. With the 2012 Mardi Gras season upon us, Lola is looking to bring the party to the premier entertainment venue in downtown St. Louis. With special celebrations starting on Friday, 2/17 and continuing through Tuesday, 2/21, Lola will feature various artists including local sensation Big Brother Thunder & the Master Blasters (2/21). Look for Lola to be the prime spot for this year’s Mardi Gras celebrations.

3/2: King Britt w/ DJ Jevon Jackson – 9pm – $12 in advance/$15 day of
King Britt, his name from birth, is crowned royalty of Philadelphia; a multi-talented artist, King’s strong cross-genre abilities have led him to work in deep house, hip-hop, broken beat, nu-jazz, funk, and afro-tech alongside legendary artists such as Sun Ra and De La Soul. After touring with Grammy award winning band Digable Planets, he helped foster revolutionary development in his hometown’s music community through his work as a DJ, producer and label owner. His legendary remixing and production skills have been on display for over 20 years all around the world.

3/3: DJ P & Diamond D – 10pm – $10
DJ P
DJ P, hailing from Springfield, MO is this year’s winner of BET’s “Master of the Mix” competition. DJ P beat out ten other nationally and internationally recognized DJs to become Season 2’s winner, with a prize of $250,000. DJ P’s party-rocking hip-hop productions have established him as a legend in the underground DJ community. He is widely considered one of the pioneers of “blending,” more commonly known as “mash up”. What sets DJ P apart from the many hip-hop DJs out there is his technical cutting and scratching skills, combined with a unique song selection that moves and excites crowds. He draws on vast musical knowledge and utilizes all types of genres in his creations; from 80s New Wave, to alternative rock, to drum and bass, and of course, classic and relevant hip-hop.

Diamond D
Hip-hop legend Diamond D, originally DJ Jazzy Jay, has been honing his beat making and turntable skills since the late 1980s. Over the years, Diamond D has worked with some of the game’s most acclaimed artists such as A Tribe Called Quest, The Fugees, Jay-Z, and Busta Rhymes. His work as a producer has earned him a Grammy and recent live performances have been met with live crowds and rave reviews.
