Despite everyone thinking Kanye West’s new album cover would feature a gold melted Jesus piece, the rapper has squashed the metallic rumors by taking to his website to post what’s being billed as the official artwork.
West is apparently adopting a minimalistic approach instead — the “Yeezus” album art is, in essence, non-existant. With no disc jacket to be found, the cover is a clear case with a blank CD inside. The album features red gaffer tape with the word “Yeezus” scrawled across it.
The rapper took to Twitter to confirm the artwork:
DJ Semtex, who has performed on West’s tour before, also posted the image to his website, writing: “Forget everything else you have seen, this is the official artwork. No cover, booklet, just a sticker on the reverse of the package with the track list.”
West’s website also offers a snippet of a soulful-sounding song that lasts all of about 10 seconds and may or may not be part of the “Yeezus” lineup. Place your mouse over the artwork and the teaser will stream.
The original rumors that the Jesus-inspired artwork would adorn the cover of “Yeezus,” slated for a June 18 release, were prompted by none other than Kim Kardashian, who posted a photo of the imagery to Instragram right before West took the “Saturday Night Live” stage on May 18.
