Recap: Chingy’s Birthday Celebration
 Seven L. Maxwell
On Thursday, March 11, 2010, Amit Dhawan masterfully organized yet another exclusive event as the urban elite enjoyed the elegant atmosphere of the Asian-inspired ultra lounge—Mandarin. It was there where Chingy’s close friends and family came together with St. Louis socialites and members of the media to help the Walnut-Park-raised rapper celebrate this milestone birthday.

Upon Chingy’s entry into the venue, the party went from a simple social setting to an all out listening session as he joined DJ Sno in the booth and performed new singles from his new project entitled Minor Setback for a Major Comeback including “Be My Girl” featuring former label-mate, Bobby Valentino. Also in attendance was fellow local rapper Huey who helped toast to Chingy as he partied performing his two new singles, “Smile and Wave” and “On Another Planet” featuring Lil’ Wayne.

The party was turned up a bit when Mocha Latte took her place on the microphone and entertained the crowd which included Chingy’s publicist Abesi PR; booking manager, Veronica “Mousie” Haley; cousin, rapper Young Spiffy; image consultant, Cassandra Streater Morrow; Choreographer/Notifi Records artist/Greedy Genius Coordinator, L. Frost; booking agent, Diamon Williams; JPEK CreativeWorks founder, Joel P.E. King; St. Louis Post-Dispatch’s Kevin C. Johnson; STL TV’s Schalene Houston; St. Louis American’s Kenya Vaughn; KMOV-TV’s Erica Byfield; KSDK-TV’s Jeff Small; Anthony McDonald, author of Risen: From Jamestown to the White House; and Delux Magazine’s own Brian Shields, Lawrence Bryant, and Kyle Griffin.

The celebration was a certified success as Chingy partied with his people before preparing to perform before sold-out crowds in Germany and Europe with the expectation of sharing the success of the debut of his next endeavor with the city he calls home.
