The Urban League of Metropolitan St. Louis, Inc. will host its Centennial Gala on March 24, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. at the Marriott St. Louis Hotel. The League’s Centennial Gala marks the agency’s 100 years of service to the St. Louis community. To mark this special occasion, Academy Award Winner Viola Davis will serve as keynote speaker for event followed by a concert by Eric Benét.

“We are especially excited to celebrate the Urban League’s Centennial with a black-tie gala. Each year the League serves 100,000 residents in the areas of Community Empowerment, Economic Opportunity, Educational Excellence, Civil Rights and Advocacy throughout the St. Louis metropolitan region with 13 locations and a $21 million budget,” said Michael P. McMillan, President and CEO of the Urban League of Metropolitan St. Louis, Inc.  “We also would like to highlight the agency’s historical value and contributions to the community-at-large.”urban

Viola Davis is an Academy Award, Emmy Award and Tony Award-winning actress who is best known for her roles in films such as “Fences”, “The Help”, “The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby” and “Ender’s Game” and for her in the hit ABC series “How to Get Away with Murder”. Noted as one of the greatest actresses of her generation, she was the first African American woman to be nominated for three Academy Awards, winning one, and is the only African American to achieve the Triple Crown of Acting.

Eric Benét is an R&B and neo soul singer-songwriter and actor who has received a total of four Grammy nominations to date for his musical work. Benét is a platinum-recording selling artist who is best known for his first #1 R&B single “Spend My Life with You.”
