Please tell us what being a business owner means to you and why you became an entrepreneur? Being a business owner means having the freedom to control my destiny, express my own creativity, and allows me the the ability to provide career opportunities to others in the beauty and wellness industry while at the same time keeping God and family first in my life.

What or who has been your greatest influence in business and why? I would have to say my Mother has been my greatest influence in business. As a little girl I saw my mother of 3 children climb the corporate ladder to become one of the first black female V.P’s at the company she worked for, at a time when not only was it uncommon for blacks to hold such a title at a large corporation, but for a  black female in that position was very rare.

What would you say is your greatest professional accomplishment? My greatest accomplishment in business to date is being the only upscale black owned salon and spa in the Metro East area while being a devoted wife and a mother of 2 great sons. Priding myself on diversity, excellence and merging cultural differences in the beauty industry I started my business from the ground up with my first location opening 16 years ago.

What’s the best advice you have received in business that you wish to pass on to our readers? The best advise I’ve received is, “Run your business with integrity and never compromise your vision even through obstacles and set backs, as they are inevitable.”

What has been the most effective marketing initiatives or programs you have used to promote your business? Word of mouth is still the most effective, however social media and television promoting has also been very beneficial

What one thing have you learned as a small business owner that has served you well over the years? Integrity in customer service and recognizing the value that each customer brings to the success of my business. Setting business goals, and always striving to set my business apart from its competitors.

My business was featured on KMOV-TV Great Day St Louis where I had the opportunity to promote my business and all of the services at Before and After Salon & Spa to the many viewers in the St Louis and surrounding areas….Numerous professional photo shoots for magazines. My business will be featured for a second time on KMOV- TV Great Day St Louis segment in the near future.

What do you do for fun/relaxation? For relaxation/fun I love to travel with my husband and 2 sons. I truly enjoy date nights with my husband or just winding down at home with a glass of wine in front of the fireplace.

What is Number One Business Goal you plan to accomplish over the next year? My number one goal is to continue to grow my business and expand the services and products already offered at Before and After Salon & Spa.

Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers? I want to share with the readers that it is our mission to allow each one of our customers a relaxing atmosphere where they can be pampered as we enhance their natural beauty. That includes all of the services of an upscale salon and spa. Our team of professionals have received advance training, certifications, and are fully accredited. Before and After Salon & Spa is a multi-cultural salon/spa located  just 15 minutes from downtown St. Louis. We strive to set standards, exceed each customers expectations and create an environment that is healthy, nurturing and relaxing for all.
