The NAACP Image Awards are given annually to outstanding people of color in film, television, music and literature. On March 4th 2011 at 8pm on FOX, NAACP plans to spice things up this year by nominating Justin Timberlake for Outstanding Supporting Actor in The Social Network and rising starlet Willow Smith for Outstanding New Artist and Outstanding Music Video for her hit song “Whip My Hair”

It is obvious that NAACP plans to shake things up this year which they accomplished by adding underdog Kanye West to the list. Mr. West is nominated for two categories, Outstanding Male Artist with Cee Lo Green, Usher, Ne-Yo and good friend Jays-Z and Outstanding Album for My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. His album will have to hold its own against musical icons like Sade and Smokey Robinson for Solider of Love and Now and Then along with Usher for Raymond vs. Raymond and John Legend and The Roots for Wake Up!

Now when mentioning Image Awards, Kanye West does not typically come to mind. It is no secret that Mr. West has had a rough year but we can’t hold that against him. With 142 nominations and 47 actual wins in the United States and Europe combined, Mr. West is someone that should not be ignored. He is a man of many talents and his work speaks for itself.
