June is officially Pride Month and with Pride, we want to celebrate and highlight the valuable contributions of black queer artists and creatives.

In St. Louis and around the world, Black and Brown LGBTQ folks have been at the center of black culture, especially in arts and entertainment.  DELUX is eager to partner, support, and shine a spotlight on the excellence of millions within the LGBTQ community. Join us this month as we feature excellence within the Art community.

This month I took a closer look at LGBT and creatives in St. Louis who are doing great things and asked them two questions; What do they love about their art form and how would they describe it? I want you to get to know some of the amazing artistic talents our city holds, so with no further ado, Meet Christopher Thomas!

Maven Lee: What do you love about art?

Christopher Thomas: I love the reality that anyone can create art in their “image” and how it will be appreciated by someone in the world. The ability to have full control over what you produce and show your thoughts, emotions, and spirit. To know that you can have a positive, impactful, or insightful effect in someone’s life is unmeasurable. Art is a form of self-expression that we all love, but to me it’s more. It is a gift that can be taken beyond the superficial to the depths of the spiritual.

Maven Lee: Describe your work?

Christopher Thomas: As an artist, a lot of my work is catered to what my clients want. Ranging from family portraits to artistic body paintings. However, my original pieces draw inspiration from African and Biblical references, accented with subtle iconography placed throughout the painting. Or reflect on my emotional and mental states and connections to life. It’s never “in-your-face”, but it demands an attention to detail.
