Twelve years after the death of Michael Brown Jr. sparked a global movement for racial justice and police accountability, his family continues to transform unimaginable loss into purpose. From August 7–9, the Michael Brown Sr. Chosen for Change Organization will host its 12th Legacy Weekend across the St. Louis region, bringing together community members for three days of remembrance, healing, education, and action.

Centered around the 2026 theme, “What Does Justice Look Like to You?”, this year’s Legacy Weekend encourages participants to think beyond legal definitions of justice and examine fairness, equality, accountability, and healing from both personal and community perspectives.

Honoring Michael Brown Jr.’s Legacy Through Community Action

Since its founding, the Michael Brown Sr. Chosen for Change Organization has worked to support fathers, families, and communities navigating traumatic loss while preserving Michael Brown Jr.’s legacy through advocacy, healing initiatives, and community empowerment.

Legacy Weekend serves as both a memorial and a call to action, creating opportunities for meaningful dialogue while celebrating those committed to building stronger communities.

“2025 was the preparation, and 2026 is executing the mission,” said Cal D. Brown, Executive Director of Chosen for Change. “We invite everyone to stand with us to honor our beloved Michael’s legacy and celebrate the community who continue to build the world he deserved.”

Community Panel Discussion: “What Does Justice Look Like to You?”

The weekend begins with a thought-provoking panel discussion exploring justice from multiple perspectives, encouraging honest conversations about fairness, equality, accountability, and repairing harm.

Black Ball 2026: Rip the Runway for Justice

One of the organization’s signature events, Black Ball 2026 transforms fashion into a powerful platform for advocacy. Under the theme “Fashion Is Justice,” the evening celebrates community leaders and changemakers while raising funds to support the organization’s ongoing work.

Annual Moment of Silence

Legacy Weekend concludes with the community’s annual gathering at the Michael Brown Jr. Memorial on Canfield Drive, where loved ones, faith leaders, advocates, and community members will pause for a solemn moment of silence, reflection, and remembrance at the location where Michael Brown Jr. lost his life.

The memorial will include guest speakers and reaffirm the community’s continued commitment to justice and healing.
