Born in Birmingham, Alabama, and raised in East St. Louis, Illinois, Marvin F. Cockrell has spent a lifetime immersed in music. What began as a passion for listening evolved into a successful career as a keyboardist, composer, and musical director whose work has earned respect throughout the smooth jazz community.

Influenced by legendary artists including Sonny Stitt, Oscar Peterson, and Ramsey Lewis, Cockrell developed a signature sound that blends smooth jazz with funk, R&B, soul, pop, and Latin rhythms. The result is a style that is energetic, contemporary, and uniquely his own.
