ST. LOUIS, Mo. — WerQfest returned to St. Louis for its seventh annual celebration on Saturday, July 11, 2026, transforming Atomic by Jamo in The Grove into a vibrant showcase of Black queer artistry, music, and community. Under this year’s empowering theme, “Express Yourself,” the festival once again proved why it has become one of the Midwest’s most important cultural events, creating space where Black queer creatives are celebrated, supported, and centered.
Founded by Tre’von Griffith and Shelton Boyd-Griffith, WerQfest has grown into far more than a music festival. It is a cultural movement that intentionally amplifies Black queer voices through live performances, storytelling, fashion, visual arts, and community engagement. Each year, the event attracts artists and attendees from across the region while highlighting the incredible talent emerging from St. Louis.

A Celebration of Culture, Identity, and Creative Freedom
From the moment gates opened at 5 p.m., festivalgoers experienced an atmosphere built around authenticity, creativity, and connection. The 2026 festival embraced its “Express Yourself” theme by encouraging attendees to celebrate their individuality while supporting artists whose work continues to shape culture beyond traditional entertainment spaces.
The Grove provided the perfect backdrop, with colorful fashion, energetic performances, and a community united by music and artistic expression.
JT Headlines an Unforgettable Night
Leading the 2026 lineup was rap superstar JT, whose headlining performance energized the crowd and capped off an evening filled with standout moments.
Joining JT were nationally recognized performers including:
- Onya Nurve, winner of RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 17
- Infinite Coles, known for blending R&B, alternative sounds, and genre-defying performances
Together, the headliners reflected WerQfest’s commitment to showcasing artists who continue pushing creative boundaries while inspiring audiences across multiple communities.
Spotlighting St. Louis Talent

One of WerQfest’s defining strengths continues to be its investment in local artists.
This year’s lineup featured performances from several St. Louis musicians and creatives, including:
- Kristopher Lay
- Lala Ahmir
- Meadow Grace
- K. Rush
Festival organizers also highlighted local DJs who kept the energy flowing throughout the evening:
- DJ PBNJEFFY
- DJ Rico Steez
- DJ Nyara
- DJ Maxa
The carefully curated lineup showcased emerging artists alongside nationally recognized names, reinforcing WerQfest’s mission of creating opportunities for Black queer creatives at every stage of their careers.
More Than Music
While live performances remained the centerpiece of the festival, WerQfest 2026 offered attendees a full cultural experience.
Additional programming included:
- Volume Speaks Beat Battle, showcasing lyrical creativity and musical innovation
- Vanessa Frost’s Frosty Revue, delivering an unforgettable live performance
- The high-energy “Let’s F*cking Dance” Afterparty, which kept the celebration going late into the night
These experiences helped transform the festival into an immersive celebration of Black queer creativity across multiple artistic disciplines.
Building Community Beyond Pride Month

Although many LGBTQ+ celebrations occur during Pride Month, WerQfest intentionally extends that visibility by creating opportunities throughout the summer for community building and cultural celebration.
The festival continues to emphasize that Black queer stories deserve year-round recognition—not just during designated observances.
By blending nationally recognized performers with hometown talent, WerQfest demonstrates how St. Louis continues to serve as an important hub for emerging artists while fostering inclusive creative spaces that welcome diverse voices.
A Growing Cultural Institution

Since its founding, WerQfest has steadily expanded its reach and reputation. Each annual event builds upon the previous year, attracting larger audiences, more nationally recognized performers, and increased attention from media outlets throughout the Midwest.
Its continued growth reflects the demand for authentic cultural experiences that celebrate Black queer excellence while strengthening connections between artists and their communities.
WerQfest continues to prove that St. Louis is home to some of the country’s most innovative cultural experiences. By creating space for Black queer artists to perform, connect, and thrive, the festival has become more than an annual event—it has become a movement rooted in visibility, creativity, and community. As each year raises the bar, WerQfest is helping shape the future of culture while reminding audiences that everyone’s story deserves a stage. Learn more about Werq Fest
