Mark your calendars, because black excellence is upon us again. The nominees for the 49th annual NAACP Image Awards have been announced, with Netflix, OWN, and ABC leading the pack. In TV, Netflix has 23 nominations, while OWN has 17. The NAACP Image Awards celebrates the accomplishments of people of color in the categories of television, music, literature and film, and also gives recognition to individuals or groups who promote social injustice through creative endeavors.

24k Magic singer Bruno Mars and “Insecure” creator, Issa Rae racked up four nominations each, while also nabbing the Entertainer of the Year nomination. Cast members from the show black-ish, also make the list of nominees. In the music arena, Mary J Blige and Jay-Z have tied for the most nominations, with the 4:44 rapper also snagging the Entertainer of the Year nomination.

Music dynasties, RCA Records and Capitol Records led the recording category with 12 and six nominations, respectively. Following behind them, Universal Pictures earned 10 nominations, followed by Annapurna and Open Road Films, which both received five nominations in the motion picture categories. HarperCollins Publishing earned 11 nominations in the literary category.

“Black-ish” star Anthony Anderson, who scored an acting in a comedy series nomination, will host the festivities at Pasadena Civic Auditorium. The multi-cultural show is scheduled to air live on MLK Day, January 15, 2018.
