A classic cafeteria, the Best Steak House has been serving up great steaks in Midtown St. Louis since 1964. The grill sizzles seven days a week with steaks, burgers, pork chops and chicken. Other favorites include fried fish or shrimp. Even with salad, Texas-toast and baked potato, the price stays in the $7-$15 range. A gyros sandwich is on the menu as a salute to the Greek heritage of the founder, Dean Kases, though the St. Louis institution is now operated by son Dean Jr. and son-in-law Phil Schreiber. Dress is casual and no reservations are required.
Best Steak House does a brisk carry-out business, but call ahead for even faster pick-up. Special arrangements can be made for corporate catering for parties of 25 or more.
