I remember the first time I heard Sade sing. I was around 10-years-old and my mother had the radio on Quiet Storm. Is It A Crime played throughout the car speakers and I was mesmerized by how calming the song was to me. Her voice was so melodic, soft, and sultry, I instantly drifted off to sleep. From that moment on, I was hooked.

Fast-forward about fifteen years, I had the opportunity to see her perform in concert. The instant she came onto the stage, I felt like someone had pressed play on her Cd and let it play for two hours straight. Every note, every lyric was sung exactly like she’d sung it on the album. Still to this day, that concert is one of my favorite concerts ever.

So, imagine my excitement when I heard her song, Flower of the Universe on Ava Duvernay’s, Wrinkle in Time movie earlier this year. The soundtrack contribution was Sade’s first new song in seven years. Her last album, Solider in Love was released in 2010—shortly before she went out on her last tour.

The real surprise is that she’s back again, and hopefully it means we won’t have to wait too long for another album. This time around, she’s lending her acoustics to “The Big Unknown,” a track for Steve McQueen’s upcoming film, Widows.

In addition to the icon’s vocals, other soundtrack contributions include features from Nina Simone, The Cool Kids, and many others.

The highly anticipated film features Academy-award winner, Viola Davis, along with Robert Duvall, Daniel Kaluuya (Black Panther), and others. The movie is slated to arrive in theaters on November 16.
