When My Style is My Own

As we all know, fashion is about creative expression. Through prints, different materials, colors, and proportions, people are able to create looks for themselves that show who they are and how they want to be seen. Although it is common for celebrities to hire a stylist, there are a few who enjoy the challenges of putting together looks for their outings. From Models to rappers, these are some of our favorite public figures with a knack for not only fashion but styling themselves! 

Blake Lively 

After starring in Gossip Girl with styles as iconic as the show, it’s no surprise that Blake Lively is one of the few celebrities who styles herself. Over the years, the actress has become known for her elegant and crowd-pleasing style. Some of her most popular looks consist of breathtaking ensembles including flowy dresses, pantsuits, and skirts. When speaking to WWD about her style, Lively spoke on how she calls in and puts together outfits on her own. “I love design and I love fashion, and it’s a way to be creative,” she said. 

Erykah Badu 

Being a free spirit comes with wanting control over one’s image, and having the freedom to change it whenever necessary. Erykah Badu is one artist that firmly believes this. Easily recognized for her imaginative and unconventional looks, the singer has drawn attention to her fashion choices and stylist behind them. With such out-of-the-box attire, it’s easy to think there is a team of stylists behind Badu. However, the singer has openly admitted to being the brains of the operation. In an interview with Vogue she stated, “I don’t work withj a stylist, and I never plan what I’m going to wear, it’s always an of-the-moment thing.”

Kate Moss 

Seeing supermodel Kate Moss on this list should not come as a surprise! After walking in hundreds of fashion shows and spending years among the hottest designers, the icon has gained a keen eye for style and knows how to put together looks that are not only flattering but self-expressive. Though simple, Moss has way of making her looks scream fashionable. Whether it’s adding extra layers or including a printed piece for a bit more fun, the model makes sure she is always put together. 

Diane Keaton 

Diane Keaton is an actress well known for her original style choices. At a young age she discovered her love for fashion and hasn’t looked back since. It’s rare that you see her in anything other than neutral colors, pantsuits and full skirts; however, she still manages to keep her looks eye-catching fresh and exciting – without a stylist! Creating outfits for oneself can be tough however, layering, playing with proportions and pulling out fun prints are just a few of Keaton’s tricks when it comes to creating the looks she is so well known for. 

French Montana – “Iced out, no stylist.” 

“Iced out, no stylist.” In his hit song “no stylist” featuring Drake, popular rapper French Montana lets it be known that his own fashion sense is what creates his fly looks! It doesn’t matter if he’s in a music video, going to an event or posting on social media, you can be sure French Montana will show up and show out. There’s no doubt about it that the artist loves to keep his style original, exciting and fresh. By experimenting with funky prints, button-down shirts, furs, and letterman jackets Montana not only makes bold statements but catches the eyes of fashion lovers while doing it. 

Rachel Bilson

Rachel Bilson is yet another star who loves the creative direction behind styling herself. After being on the Hollywood scene for so long the actress knows exactly how she likes to look and isn’t afraid to get creative. In a 2010 interview with Vogue the actress stated, “I really dress myself. I’ve been known to put a necklace in my hair. That’s what getting dressed should be. It’s about fun and experimenting. I think you either enjoy it or you don’t—and I do.” With such a love for dressing up, it’s easy to understand why Bilson’s looks come out so seamlessly. She’s not afraid to test the waters and is confident in where her looks will take her!

Lil Baby 

Rapper Lil baby is known for his flashy outfits and takes pride in dressing himself, influencing others and being a trendsetter. Frequently seen rocking labels including Gallery DEPT, Balenciaga, and Louis Vuitton the artist is no stranger to what’s hot. Baby’s style is a mix of streetwear and comfortable attire. Designer hoodies, shirts, jeans, and sneakers are all big parts of his wardrobe, but it’s the way he mixes them that makes him stand out. The artist is also very fond of monochromatic looks and has no shame in putting together all orange, red, green, and even yellow outfits, which isn’t as easy as it sounds. Lil Baby’s confidence and risk-taking are what enable him to express himself and push the boundaries of fashion and it’s definitely been paying off!
