Louis Vuitton X Muhammad Ali X Yasiin Bey

Fashion house Louis Vuitton tapped director Stuart McIntyre, graphic designer Niels Shoe Meulman, and rapper/actor Yasiin Bey (formerly known as Mos Def) to honor legendary boxer Muhammad Ali in a new advertisement campaign.

Vuitton seeks to highlight their association with the art of travel through the campaign, which features graphic art, spoken word, and fashion to depict a riveting image of Muhammad Ali’s career over time. In the “Dream” and “Word” videos, Bey recites Ali’s most famous taunts and brags in a similar bold and powerful manner. Bey performs the spoken word while  Meulman uses a broom to paint the titles on the ring floor in calligraphy style letters.

Louis Vuitton’s Muhammad Ali campaign continues with two new commercials, very aptly titled “Word” and “Dream.” Starring Yasiin Bey, once known as Mos Def, and visual artist Neils Shoe Meulman, the clips evoke the dramatic power of the young heavyweight everyone remembers. Set in a dark boxing ring, the rapper/actor dresses like Ali, moves like Ali and talks like Ali, reciting just a few of the former champs now legendary words. It’s quite inspiring, but be forewarned, also a little haunting. Both commercials are directed by Stuart McIntyre of Stream Films, and will hopefully reach television screens very soon.
