As a proud Black-owned media publication based in the vibrant city of St. Louis, we believe in the power of community engagement and uplifting those around us. With National Volunteer Week just around the corner, we’re thrilled to invite our fellow St. Louisans to join us in participating all week long!

From April 21th to April 27th, National Volunteer Week serves as a time to recognize and celebrate the impact of volunteer service across the nation. It’s an opportunity for individuals, organizations, and communities to come together, share their time and talents, and create positive change.

Black Community Engagement Matters

As members of the Black community in St. Louis, our involvement in volunteerism is especially crucial. Volunteering allows us opportunities to place action behind our words and actively help heal this land. The immediate benefits we reap to actively participating in volunteerism are:

  • Strengthening Our Communities: Volunteering allows us to play an active role in strengthening the social fabric of our neighborhoods. By participating in local initiatives, we can address issues that disproportionately affect our community and work towards building a more resilient and empowered collective.
  • Amplifying Our Voices: Volunteering provides us with a platform to amplify our voices and advocate for causes that matter to us. Whether it’s supporting Black-owned businesses, mentoring youth, or advocating for social justice, our actions have the power to effect meaningful change.
  • Fostering Unity and Solidarity: Volunteerism fosters unity and solidarity within the Black community. By coming together to address common challenges and uplift one another, we demonstrate the strength and resilience of our collective spirit.
  • Empowering Future Generations: Our involvement in volunteerism sets a powerful example for future generations. By engaging in acts of service, we instill values of compassion, empathy, and community responsibility in the next generation of Black leaders.

How You Can Get Involved:

Volunteering isn’t just about giving back; it’s about building connections, fostering empathy, and making a meaningful difference in the lives of others. Ready to roll up your sleeves and make a difference? Here are a few ways you can get involved in National Volunteer Week right here in St. Louis:

  1. Community Clean-Up: Organize a neighborhood clean-up event to beautify and revitalize local streets, parks, and public spaces. Gather volunteers to pick up litter, plant flowers, and create a cleaner, safer environment for all residents.
  2. Mentorship Programs: Volunteer with organizations that offer mentorship programs for Black youth in St. Louis. Whether it’s providing academic support, career guidance, or life skills coaching, your mentorship can make a lasting impact on the lives of young people in our community.
  3. Food Drives: Partner with local food banks or community organizations to organize food drives for individuals and families facing food insecurity. Collect non-perishable items and distribute them to those in need, ensuring that everyone has access to nutritious meals.
  4. Voter Registration Drives: Host voter registration drives to empower members of the Black community to exercise their right to vote. Provide information on voter registration requirements, assist with registration forms, and educate participants about the importance of civic engagement.

At DELUX, we believe in the power of collective action and community empowerment. This National Volunteer Week, let’s come together as a united force to uplift, inspire, and create positive change within the Black community and beyond.

Together, we can build a brighter future for all St. Louisans. Together, we can make a difference.
