Today the world woke to news that Snoop Dogg is now the owner of Death Row Records. The iconic label where the Doggfather began his career will now be headed by Snoop.
“I am thrilled and appreciative of the opportunity to acquire the iconic and culturally significant Death Row Records brand, which has immense untapped future value,” the 50-year-old Snoop Dogg said in a statement. “It feels good to have ownership of the label I was part of at the beginning of my career and as one of the founding members. This is an extremely meaningful moment for me.”
Many are speculating what Snoop’s priorities will be as he takes Death Row into the future. Snoop has managed a spectacular rap career for over 20+ years and in the statement released is aware of the companies untapped value.
Snoop has been critical in the past or certain styles of rap music, so could this new development bring a return to Gangsta Rap or perhaps an evolution to the genre? Will Snoop take an artist from East St. Louis and help put them on the map?
Whether he does any of the above is a mystery and is too soon to tell but one thing is for sure. Snoop has cemented his legacy in rap for sure as one of its GOATS!
The news announced just days away from the Super Bowl, where Snoop along with Dr. Dre, Ice Cube, Eminem and the Queen Of R&B/Soul and Glamour herself Mary J. Blige will perform at SoFi Stadium to a packed stadium. When Snoop hits the stage we are certain the entire West Coast will cheer with or without the Lambs winning the Super Bowl.
