Shells uses the same kick drum on “Arctic” and “Spider” and pretty much the same sound palette—bells, deep house bass and watery synths acting out melodies that take a few bars to figure out. And that’s what I like about it. Listening to the single—in part because its only nine minutes of music, begging for repeated back to back plays—is about committing to a head space that’s simple and soothing. It’s purifying, the feeling of clean. Like taking a shower in the afternoon just to collect your thoughts.
