Last night was a movie at 2720 Cherokee the popular South-side concert venue where the Slumfest Awards were held. With a diverse crowd that numbered over a couple hundred attendees the air was positive and congratulatory as the nominees and winners networked and mingled with fans and spectators. Below are the winners of some of the nights prizes with the most notable in this writers eyes being Hip Hop Pioneer award which was  granted to DJ Da Fly D-Ex for his contribution to the burgeoning Hip Hop scene here in St. Louis. The night would also mark the first time that the top prize in the SLUMfest Hip Hop Awards 5 year history going to a female emcee Bates! Last night Bates walked away with two prizes and brought out the ladies to perform her recent hit Tell Jesus.
