The White House Correspondents’ Dinner is a fundraiser held every year by The White House Correspondents’ Association (WHCA). The WHCA is an organization of journalists (called the press corps) who cover news about President and his Administration. Since 1941, the WHCA has pressed for briefings, interviews and regular coverage of the president’s public activities. The WHCA website states that the White House press corps includes about “ 250 people [who] keep a daily watch on the administration, relying heavily on their proximity to the president and his staff inside the walls of the historic building.”
The WHCA holds the annual dinner to raise money for scholarships and honor the professional recipients of the WHCA’s Journalism Awards.
The dinner includes a skit by the President in which he mocks himself, for the amusement of the press corps. The press corps, in turn, gets to mingle with the President, Administration officials and celebrities.
Celebrities showed up and showed out this year with their fabulous sartorial choices. Check out our favorite picks and comment below!
