MADEMEN TOUR x 2CHAINZ
All week the radio has been buzzing here in Kansas City with 2 Chainz songs and news of the upcoming 2 Chainz concert, so on the night of November 15, 2013 the city was on fire about this upcoming show. Outside The Sprint Center were crowds of people, black, white, Latino, you name it, all from different parts of the city. All of these concert goers have two things in common, one being the obvious fandom for 2 Chainz and two, something that was just as obvious, they all came dressed to the 9’s. Leopard Print, Spikes, Leather, Gold Chains, it felt like being at a Madonna show, true testament to how far hip hop has come.
As the crowd filled the seats and opening acts were introduced the level of energy seemed to be at a moderate level.
Artists such as Rocko hit the stage to get the people moving with songs like “Umma Do Me” and “U. O. E. N. O.” but there was no doubt that they were getting anxious for the main acts. Tyga, donning two bodyguards on each side walked swiftly through the backstage crowd and made his way to the stage, remaining true to his Young Money roots performed favorites like “Bedrock” and of course “Lap Dance”. This was just what the crowd needed to get out of their seats and remain standing for what seemed like the rest of the show. Juicy J was up next and demanded the crowds full attention with nearly all of his radio hits, he even got a little nostalgic and took us all back to the 36 Mafia days and had nearly everyone in The Sprint Center chanting “sipping on some sizurp”.
As Juicy J left the stage we were instructed that we need to clear the area so that 2 Chainz could get through, later finding out (allegedly) 2 Chainz wanted to see Tech N9NE perform without being hassled by the media or his fans. This was a good idea for 2 Chainz as the Hometown Hero Tech N9ne hit the stage along with Krizz Kalico, wearing face paint and what seemed to be an all red prison jumpsuit. Kansas City showed respect as we always do by standing on chairs, dancing, and shouting every lyric to every song until our throats got sore. After leaving the stage with his traditional “21 Gun Salute” Tech N9ne set the perfect atmosphere for 2 Chainz.
Without missing a beat 2 Chainz hit the stage wearing leggings, black shorts, a white shirt, a fitted and of course 2 (or maybe a few) chains. Performing hits from his current album B. O. A. T. S. I #MeTime, Chainz put on a hell of a show, as he danced like only he can across the stage, and we rapped our favorite 2 Chainz songs right along with him. It was the perfect end to the night. Hip Hop has evolved, it’s fun, flashy and mainstream and sometimes a little ratchet. I wouldn’t have it any other way. – words by: Lakeisha Michelle
